Wall Street and Business Leaders Look to Quantum Computing

Quantum computing is garnering lots of attention on Wall Street, with Barron’s noting in a recent article that shares of D-Wave Quantum set an intraday high after the company unveiled the results of a survey conducted in conjunction with Wakefield Research.
The article describes the survey results as “a vote of confidence from business leaders” for quantum computing, saying the findings mark a key development for an industry that trades largely on sentiment. Wakefield Research polled 400 business leaders across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific in May.
Among the findings: The vast majority of business leaders (81%) believe they have reached the limit of the benefits they can achieve through optimization solutions running on classical computers. And more than half (53%) are planning to add quantum computing into their workflows, while 27% are considering doing so.
“While it’s impossible to gauge investor sentiment from one survey, the results were just the latest indicator that quantum computing is attracting global interest as it steadily progresses beyond a laboratory setting,” wrote Barron’s reporter Mackenzie Tatananni.
