The Rise of AI-Generated Expense Receipts
According to findings from Wakefield Research and SAP Concur’s annual Global Business Travel Survey for 2025, artificial intelligence is creating a new problem for financial leaders and travel managers at companies. For 67% of Chief Financial Officers, employees falsifying travel expense receipts with AI is something they believe is likely to be happening at their company. Another 9% of CFOs are certain it’s happening.
The report included data from surveys conducted with 3,750 business travelers across 24 international markets, 700 travel managers in seven markets, and 600 CFOs in six markets.
The eye-opening findings were featured in a Financial Times article about the phenomenon an AI-assisted expense fraud.
