Small-business owners are investing more in their companies, as opposed to stockpiling cash reserves, a new survey concludes.
Nearly half of 501 business owners polled in January by Brother International Corp., a marketer of printers, scanners other business machinery, said they are spending more time and money on growing their companies than they did a year ago. Thirty percent said they would rather have more time on their calendars than cash in their pockets and 79% said they plan to use their time more efficiently in 2011.
Separately, Brother International, located in Bridgewater, N.J., is hosting a contest aimed at small-business owners that will give away cash and prizes. The company is inviting individuals nationwide to share in at least 25 words how they would use 11×17 printing, copying, scanning and faxing capabilities in their day-to-day business.
A $10,000 business grant will be awarded to the individual who submits the most relevant, creative and original entry. Other entrants could win one of five weekly prize packs including a $500 Apple gift card and a Brother inkjet all-in-one printer.
Enter the contest here through March 29.
