Quick! What key words might you use to describe Gen X and Gen Y?

Odds are, lazy, entitled, and coddled, came to mind. Well, then you’d be surprised to learn that when it comes to homeownership and home repairs, young Americans (ages 18-35) aren’t as lazy, entitled or coddled as many people believe.

In fact, a PR survey by Wakefield Research and Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate shows that Gen X and Gen Y are embracing their independence wholeheartedly:

  • Parental Supervision Not Required. 82% would handle home improvements on their own instead of asking Mom and Dad for the money.
  • Rolling Up Their Sleeves. The independent spirit of Gen X and Gen Y extends beyond financing home repairs – they are willing to get their hands dirty. Nearly 1 in 3 (30%) would prefer a “fixer-upper” to a “move-in ready” home.

The survey findings have been featured in USA Today, FOX Business and MSN.
