Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and love is in the air – but that’s not all. A 2012 survey by Wakefield Research for 1-800-FLOWERS revealed that 62% of girlfriends and wives were not “wowed” by their significant other last V-Day, adding pressure on the guys to step up their game this year. Getting flowers for your date is always a good place to start, but here are some tips to make sure your special someone feels the love this Valentine’s Day:

  • Do Something. Finding the perfect gift for your loved one can be daunting. It’s easy to stick with the classics like Teddy Bears and chocolate, but think outside the box this year! Tailor your gift into an experience, like dancing or cooking lessons. An experience you can share together will bring you closer, and that’s a gift you both can enjoy.
  • Plan Ahead. Coming up with a unique gift at a moment’s notice is stressful. Keep a running list throughout the year, of needs and desires your loved one mentions. Not only will you have a list of gifts to choose from, but it shows her you listened!
  • Don’t Let V-Day Stand Alone. A big reason for anxiety on Valentine’s Day is the expectation of grand romantic gestures. You don’t have to fall victim to this – plan other romantic dates throughout the year. Letting your lady know you can be romantic on your own places less emphasis on one special day. Go ahead, show your spontaneous side!

Don’t let Valentine’s Day be a downer for you and your loved one this year. Embrace the challenge of “wowing” your lady and have fun with it!
