Are you one of the serious shoppers waking up at bedtime to score major deals this Friday? No? Well you might be on to something. According to a recent survey done by Wakefield Research for Western Union, 60% of Americans feel that Black Friday deals aren’t as great as they are made out to be. In fact, over a quarter (27%) of those who shopped the sales last year wish they hadn’t.
Something to consider if you are still deciding just how early you are willing to wake up are the costs you may not have budgeted for. Black Friday shoppers spend $136 on average for things like gasoline, parking, babysitters, and food. Additionally, over half of shoppers admit they spent more shopping on this alleged “deal day” than they saved. The competitive, grab-it-while-you-can spirit of the busiest shopping day of the year really can make you realize just how much you need that fourth $3 toaster.
Whether you are lying low and letting the tryptophan kick in this Thanksgiving night, or setting your alarm ridiculously early, we at Wakefield wish you a safe and happy holiday.
